  • Comment Goals

Some people set goals for how many comments, subscribers and footprints they want to receive. I think having goals is a great thing.

When I started off, my goal was to get 20 comments per post.

Do you set comment goals (Even subliminally)?

If so, how many comments do you want to receive when you post?

Comments (126)

  • My goal for this post is 69

  • I like to get at least a page of comments on entries that I put a lot of thought into.
On most others I don't really care.

  • over 9000!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Personally, I'm pleased with whatever I get. Just proof that my ramblings are coherent enough for another human being to comprehend. Reassuring.

  • my goal is 0. haven't reached it yet, but maybe someday..for now i can only dream.

  • I don't really set goals, but I appreciate it so much when I get comments and subscribers :) Any amount it fine with me.

  • I stopped caring how many comments I receive, my Xanga is for me.  :)

  • just one comment from you is all i need ;)

  • 20 is usually my goal. however it increases more and more for later blogs everytime i exceed that 20.

  • @la_faerie_joyeuse - I'm with faerie on this.

  • @CaKaLusa - WHAT 9000?!?!?!?!!

  • It would be great to get a lot of comments.  Occasionally, I do something "right" and get them.  But I don't think I ever sat down and said, I want to get x number of comments.  If I did, I probably would have stopped blogging a long time ago.

  • it used to be 60 but... things changed

  • just getting a comment WITH eprops is good enough for me

  • I don't have any set goals, but I can find myself falling back into the habit of being disappointed by less comments than normal. My goal is to be able to write as honestly and as well as I can, the quality or depth of comments can be an indicator of that.

  • There is the question of quantity vs. quality, of course.   While I appreciate all types of comments, when I read my subscriptions and find comments such as "LOL" as the only thing a person typed...I have to wonder whether the person who wrote the post would like to turn around and give that commenter a PowerPoint presentation on commenting.

    This comment is rather long.

So anyhow: I like comments, I like comments with substance even better.

Of course, there are exceptions to this rule.

    LOL.

  • averaging 10-20 per post is good enough for me.

  • Right now I'm big on just watching my footprints.  I have weekly goals for comments of atleast 100...since my contents not been real jazzy lately.

  • I prefer having 20 unique comments myself. It's always been my goal to make that many.

  • Did not realize what that evil possessed calculator Mini stated prior to hitting submit...sometimes I sincerely dislike Minis.  My apologies.

  • Going with a practical number: two from two different users not including myself.

@AvenueToTheReal - When was the last time you've gotten anywhere below 100?

  • I feel happy when a post gets 100 views.  Then I think it is time for the next uninspired rambling.  Some posts make it and some don't.  The last one got 200 but I was just passing on something great.

  • I refuse to aid you in your comment goal.

  • as long as i have readers, i think that entry i wrote is worth it and i write another when i feel like it.

    i average between 5-25 comments.

  • I don't have any specific goal in mind, but it's always nice to get more than usual.

  • I usually have a goal of 50, havent reached it on average yet but working on it!

  • I write for myself and to get things out. If people read it, great. If people comment, also great. I'm not going to get all up in a knot because people don't read or comment, though.

  • It depends on the post. =)

  • I never really had a set number of comments I wished to achieve with a post. I mean, don't get me wrong, comments are nice...but just the fact that someone READS my entries is enough for my satisfaction. For me, views are just as important as comments.

  • Ummm, i don't think I set any specific goals right way. However, I'd like to get at least 1/3 the number of comments as I do views, but thats just my dream lol.

  • If I did, I'd feel like pleasing everybody and I'm horrible at pleasing people. Plus I'm out of the loop when it comes to the hot topic of the hour.

I never set goals for myself, instead allowing the winds of chance to get down and blow me...

  • lol I'm lucky if I get 2 or 3. But then again my Xanga is more for journal purposes than blogging with other people so I don't expect many readers.

  • I have no such goals for my entries since I've just started blogging on my site again.  I'd be lucky if someone even read my entries. HA!

  • don't really have comment goals but the more, the merrier.

  • For a while (when I had time to post more than once a day) I would post new when I had about 5 comments. Now, I'm just glad to get the 10 comments per post I do get each day. And most of the time there are only two or three people other than me commenting...

  • @CarmenDeBizet - it means "some comments"... :D      and i agree with you on the quality thing.

i don't really have a set goal, but i enjoy seeing the #s go up.

  • I'm just commenting to help you reach your 69 goal

  • @PhilippiansThree14 - Thank you.  Yes, (most days) quantity does trump quality one finds...but I like to be a rebel in that way. At least, I *think* I'm a rebel.    It is a constant negotiation I have learned.  Does one write for one's self or for an audience?  In my case, I write for myself, but I am glad there are those who want to hear my ramblings as verbose as they might be...I still think they have a point...somewhere.

Like your user id. Philippians 3:14. :)

  • No, I just post. If people comment, great, if not, I still feel better.

  • Comments
My goal is to make MOAR money!!

  • @CarmenDeBizet - thanks  :)      on this blog, i write primarily for an audience, although i don't seem to be getting very far with that.  haha.

  • It's always nice to receive comments, but I certainly don't set a goal for them.  This isn't my job or anything.

  • I prefer to count eProps, so I can keep track of how many individual commenters I've actually had. I like to break fifty eProps. It's great when I do that.

@CarmenDeBizet - HA, I did that once too. And it was right here on Nori's site.

  • @AvenueToTheReal -  I just realized something. 69 hahahahaha.

Man. Your blog is bad influence.

I am going to go and have a time out now.

@ClockworkBunny -   Interesting. I have seen people who leave zero eProps on sites.  That's rather mean, I think.  One time my eProps were not working and I wondered if people were saying, "Carmen is giving zero eProps! The nerve!"

  • people aren't smart enougf to comment on my sight That or it is due to a sence of misanthropy.

  • Anything = good.  I try for honesty and the comments follow.  If I try for comments, the blog isn't usually that noteworthy.

  • I'm a fan of small numbers of comments if they're individual or pertain to the post. I'd like to say that my last post fulfilled my most recent goal: make Nori laugh.

  • 3 -- one from each friend that loyally reads my xanga and comments, and that i do the same for.
but its not a big deal if they don't.

  • @CarmenDeBizet - that was one hell of a mini. i loved it! hahaha!

    i aim for 0 comments.

  • I dont have a goal. I dont really post often enough to get much following, but I love the people I do get =)

  • I don't get my affirmation from Xanga anymore.

  • @La_dolce_vida - Yeah. I'm usually a dork even when I try not to be one.

You aim for 0 comments?  I like that!  May I change my answer please, Nori?

  • Bahh. Nah, I don't really have a goal.

  • One more to  help you to get nearer to your goal!

My goal: 5 quality comments to each post.

  • No.

  • Don't really have a goal in term of number, but i do hope to receive witty or insightful comments cause they are fun to read.

  • No, I haven't set them before, however, now that I'm building up my blog more and things are going very well - I'm going to start setting them.

  • I never had a goal. In fact, I never thought I would more than like three until I got featured. Now that I have more traffic, I hope at least some will comment, but I still won't make a goal. I think subliminally I just don't want to be let down, as silly as that sounds.

  • Hmmm.  I don't think that I've ever gotten 20 comments.  I guess the real question is whether there is substance, in the post and in the comments.  It seems that a lot of what happens on Xanga is about Xanga, about comments, about being featured, about having subscribers.   I woudn't be here if there weren't substance under all of that, but sometimes I think that this cake has too much icing for me.

  • I'm happy to just get one comment.

  • i dont try to, but you seem to...

    u have crazy mind-control powers...

  • Sometimes, I am just happy with one.

  • Hm, I guess 20.
    But I don't really care.....
    that much.

  • One more for 69

  • I don't think so. Sometimes I get three comments, sometimes 30. On the rare occassion that I have a featured post it skyrockets.

Hey! You exceeded your goal! You go-getter! (Unless, of course, you decide to delete the appropriate number of comments to just have 69. There's a thought!)

  • I was like that back in Xanga's heyday when they were popular, but now it doesn't really matter to me anymore.  Most people I knew from Xanga have left.

  • Eh, I don't think I've ever set comment goals!

  • Hmm.. since I am not uber popular such as yourself and other xangalebrities, I am happy to even get 1 comment aside from my sister's.

  • For the post I used the Plugz for, my goal was 12. I think it is standing around 16? I don't even know!

    Edit: 21 comments, oh yeah!

  • @MadisonLinh - hoops and yoyo  will make you laugh...look them up on the net/web/brain/

  • @flutteredlotus - hoops and yoyo....find them on the web.....then laugh outloud

  • what's the point? i try not to buy into popularity contests etc. but i guess there is an innate human want to be liked. that's partially how our social systems have survived up until this point anyhow

  • i feel lucky to receive one comment.

  • I don't really have any. Long as people DO comment and subscribe to me, I'm satisfied.

  • i would be happy with ten. but, i never get comments anyway so oh well

  • Not really... I mean, I think getting comments is nice, but I only hope for some whenever I feel that I have written something interesting.  If it's something general, like a quick read about a recent activity (and nothing thought-provoking or very clever/funny), I don't expect much.

  • I know if a post gets around 20 comments it was well liked. If a post gets 40+ comments I start looking for Dan.

I would like more Xanga friends...who like me, and don't just like me for stalking purposes.

  • At least 2 from someone other than me, but only on posts that are either featured questions or my WTF? posts.

  • I used to go for 200; now, since I'm actually internet famous, I go for 75. I'm old enough to realize it's not the comment amount that matters so much as how many people recognize you.

  • I don't care about the number of comments. I mean it fascinates me when I do get lots of em. But what's more important to me is the identity of those who comment my posts.

  • just one because i use xanga more to read blogs than to post. most of my real blogs are on private or protected, if i do post it's more like a filler than anything or an update to my so called, life.

  • @chiayibear - That's actually a good question. Here's how I would explain it: Like I said, it's good to set goals. For example, if you're a basketball player, you would try to build up your ability to get baskets, run faster, jump higher and play smarter. Some people are ball players, and some are bloggers. I think a lot of people who  blog as a hobby should set goals for themselves, otherwise, they'll get frustrated with themselves for not measuring up to everyone else.

  • As long as I put something there that I can say to myself deserves to be there, I'm pretty sure I don't give a shit.

  • not really. but it's nice to have a comment or two.

  • I'm pretty satisfied with 2 or above, because I don't expect people I don't know IRL to comment.
Nevertheless, I'll be happy if that happens!

  • i expect at least 40. hahahahha

  • I don't really have a goal, seeing as I mainly write to entertain myself.

  • you're really smart. did you study marketing?

  • Not really bothered about how many comments I get for each entry.

    Footprints as many as possible.

  • I don't have a goal for comments. Fame corrupts the mind. :P

  • Just more than the most I've got for a single post.

  • I think I would be really lucky to get 10, but... then again, its OK.

  • you have exceeded your goals (My guestimation is that I am the 5th person to say this, without reading others comments)

  • jesus.  you have WAY too many comments... you should pass some along my way... :P

i have low standards when it comes to xanga.  my goal is 3 comments and whatever footprints i can get...  :D

  • If I get even one I'm surprised...

  • In most cases, I'm writing in the hope of starting a dialogue. It'd be great if that dialogue took place at least in part through comments to my posts, but if people talk amongst themselves elsewhere and do some research on their own (even if their motive is to disprove me), that's just as good. I post a lot of material that the majority of people will not immediately agree with and probably don't want to hear. If I'm offering opinions though, it's usually pretty clear that I've done some research, maybe even had some experience, and have facts to support my arguments, so there aren't usually very many (if any) argumentative comments. I have to admit that I wish there were. I want to convince people who don't agree with me, not preach to the proverbial choir, as it were. Oh wells, I try.

  • actually I hate having comment(or whatever)-goal blogging things...
it is kinda weird for me.........i blog becos i have something to say
    but not......racing for some comments....

  • My goal is always 40,  unless I get featured,  in which case it would be around 300.

  • Haha,  I've honestly never posted a post with comments enabled that didn't get a comment from someone else.

  • I base my judgement on the content of the comments not the quantity.  Therefore, I don't set comment goals.

  • Pulse comments,   I have no targets.

  • I have no expectations.  Therefore, even one comment exceeds my goals.

  • Your goal is already complete. I like comments. I (<5 times) have received more than ten comments on a post. Makes me sad...I want comments too.

  • i guess I don't set a goal per se but I do get bummed sometimes when I don't get more than a few.

  • Some I just know will get a lot of comments; other times I'm really writing just to engage a few thoughtful readers.  People with attention spans.

  • I haven't gotten many comments ever since I first started writing; I had stint or two of boom, but it's been bust ever since. Usually I make a rule that I try to comment on three other people's blogs everytime I post one of mine; not because I think they'll reciprocate but because it just seems like a good policy; community activity, y'know?

If I get a comment it makes me feel good; I'm not alone and I'm not hearing that dreadful echo, but if I wanted to post just because of comments I'd spend even more time on my facebook.

  • when was it that you wanted just 20 comments? must've been a long while ago? lol.

  • I set comment goals in my head.  Sometimes I reach them, sometimes not.

  • i'm just happy if i get ANYthing.

  • irrationally locate the surrounding vicinity and pinpoint the broadcaster!  they provide too many comments!  to everyone.

  • i like to see double digits...whenever i do, it usually means I am doing something right...or at least coherent

  • ideally, i want to have zillions of comments. although ive obtained it before, i found it very hard to keep up with interesting posts, and most importantly commenting back.

  • one is good enough for me. if i reached at least one person, just one, then i'm happy. =]

  • @Dorfman - Oh this is such a nice comment.

  • I don't really worry about how many comments I'll get.  I just like hearing from the friends I have made on xanga.
